Arada Ramadan OOH campaign 2024
I've always been fascinated by how much a place can change when people have free access to the beach, the habits, the lifestyle, the nuances. Having grown up in Rio, I know how much the ocean can bring a sense of unity and, to a certain extent, inclusion.
In this series, I tried to capture the diversity of activities and people who visit the space for all the different reasons. In doing so, I found many similarities with the beaches I visited as a kid, twelve thousand kilometers away; they have much more in common than you would think.
It is as if the water brings a sense of community that people from all walks of life can navigate. There is no fear on the beach, no shame. It's okay to have fun, and it's okay to have serious conversations. The beach doesn't care how you are dressed; the sand makes the football more evenly matched. The salt in the water stings and heals, and at the end of the day, everyone leaves just a little bit happier than they got there.
These were all shot in 35mm film with a small pocket camera.
